Commitment to Conservation and Preservation of the Australian Terrier

We are dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the Australian Terrier. As part of this commitment, I am an active member of the Australian Terrier Club of America (ATCA), where serve on the Sustainability Committee. Since 2021, I have had the honor of being the Chairperson of this committee.

Some of the projects I’ve been involved in to help sustain the breed include:

Australian Terrier Club of America’s (“ATCA”) Purebred Preservation Bank (“PPB”) Guidelines:
– Helped complete the ATCA’s guidelines for the receipt of semen and for breeder requests to use that semen. For more information on the Purebred Preservation Bank, please visit the AKC website: https://AKCPPB.org.

“Ask Me About My Australian Terrier” Sticker:
– Draws attention to the Australian Terrier, created this “Ask Me About My Australian Terrier” sticker, which can be placed on your car. If you’d like to purchase one, it can be ordered from this page.

The Aussie Amble:
– Launched the Aussie Amble, a fun initiative with an image and sticker designed by artist Ann Holtby MacLeod. This event encourages people to gather in groups of three or more Australian Terriers and “show off” the breed. The more people who see the breed, the more likely they are to want one and search out an Australian Terrier breeder. There is a US breed club that offers a Breeder referral list here;

Local Aussie Ambles:
Aussie owners gather about 1–2 times a year for their own Aussie Amble. If you’re interested in participating, please contact Caren@tidewalker.ca. Aussie Ambles are also occasionally held in Calgary, Nanaimo, and Courtenay/Comox. For more information or to start your own Aussie Amble and become an Ambassador for the breed, reach out to Caren.

AusTTrust – The Australian Terrier Trust
I have been a member-at-large for the AusTTrust since 2012. The Australian Terrier Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the Australian Terrier breed through health and education. For more details, please visit at this site.

Recognition:
In 2022, I was honoured as the ATCA’s Most Outstanding Sportsman. The American Kennel Club (AKC) established the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award program in 2006 to recognize and celebrate club members who have made a significant impact in the world of purebred dogs. The AKC Medallion is awarded annually by each club to one individual who embodies the AKC Code of Sportsmanship and is an active, valued member of the club. This award is given at the club’s discretion.
